Practical tips to prepare for Autumn
Here are some practical tips to prepare your open fire for autumn, ensuring it’s safe, efficient, and cozy as the cooler months approach:
With autumn fast approaching (unfortunately!), here are some tips to ensure your fire is safe, efficient, and super cosy for the chilly days and nights ahead.
Inspect and Clean the Chimney
- Arrange for a chimney sweep to clean and inspect the chimney or flue, removing any soot, blockages (e.g. birds’ nests), etc. This will help to improve airflow and reduce the risk of a chimney fire.
- Clean glass doors and check any grates or screens for damage.
Check the Fireplace Structure
- Check for any cracks, loose bricks, or damaged firebacks in the fireplace or hearth.
- Ensure the damper opens and closes smoothly, sealing well when closed and opening fully for proper ventilation.
Check Safety Equipment
- Test all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors – if you don’t have any, please consider installing some as a matter of urgency. Both items are easily available in local hardware and household stores.
- Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and review basic fire safety rules with all members of the household.
Choose WillowWarm!
- Put WillowWarm on your shopping list this week!
- To ensure a long, clean burn, your WillowWarm must be stored ideally indoors, but if not in a dry, covered, rainproof area elevated off the ground.
