Surefire signs you’re Irish

With a feeling of Spring in the air and the evenings getting brighter it means St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching. Many countries around the world will turn iconic locations green to celebrate their Irishness but what criteria do you have to meet to be truly Irish?

Here are a few to consider (remember, it’s just for fun!)

For a start, it’s St. Patrick’s Day not Paddy’s Day

There is no discussion on this one – 17th of March is St. Patrick’s Day, not Paddy’s Day or Patties Day!

The immersion

You can only be truly green if you pose the panicked question “Did you switch off the immersion?” as soon as you leave the house. Those minutes of turmoil are plagued by many minds wondering if they are the guilty party.

The weather

We Irish LOVE to talk about the weather. If we are blessed with a warm sunny day, we’re bound to complain about the heat and that “We’re not able for it”. On the other hand, the threat of a beast from the East leads to panic buying with supermarket shelves quickly stripped of bread…….and briquettes!

The cup of tea

Whether it’s to warm the soul whilst sitting in front of the fire, to solve a problem or just to have a bit of a gossip, the power of a cup of tea can never be underestimated in an Irish home.

Everyone knows who Sam is

If we need to explain this one you are most definitely not meeting this criterion. A touchy subject in many counties. (We’re based in Meath – say no more!)

Irish pub – a home from home

When we travel anywhere in the world us Irish have an innate desire to seek out an Irish pub! That Insta photo pointing at the iconic sign of a shamrock or pint is savoured by many.

And finally,………the fire

We’re instantly drawn to an open fire – rubbing hands together, back to the fire, shivering away the cold spring air or sitting in the back garden on a chilly summer night with a prosecco in hand, conversation flowing. Idyllic!

All of the above is just for fun of course. But, if you have a good heart and are open to a bit of craic you’re Irish even for just one day.

Wishing you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day from everyone at WillowWarm!
